Jerry W. Rayburn
Jerry is President, and Founder of Healthcare Cost Solutions and a senior consultant to the health care industry, with a strong record of accomplishment in health care supply chain management and information technology. Prior to forming Healthcare Cost Solutions in 1999, he served years in progressive materiel management, support services, and information technology roles. His experience includes 8 years in two large not-for-profit academic hospitals, followed by 17 years in regional and corporate roles at American Medical International, and later at Tenet Healthcare Corporation.
In his consulting engagements, Jerry has led: assessment and redesign of supply chain management business processes and organizations in many facilities; selection, implementation and optimization of system-wide ERP systems; implementation and optimization of procure-to-payment automation; inventory management optimization in supply chain management and operating rooms; clinical utilization management and value analysis initiatives; and development of reporting and key performance indicators to measure financial and operational improvements.
Jerry is passionate about optimizing and maximizing value from supply chain operations and related enabling information technologies. His focus is upon leveraging information to solve business problems and using business intelligence to drive actions leading to improved operations. He holds M.B.A. and B.S. degrees from the University of Nebraska. His professional affiliations include AHRMM, HFMA, HIMSS, and Institute for Supply Management.
Brenda F. Clayton
Brenda is Vice President for Healthcare Cost Solutions. She has over 30 years of progressive experience in health care supply chain management, financial and strategic management, and clinical administration. Ms. Clayton serves as a leading health care executive consultant concentrating in the areas of cost containment, clinical resource management, contract conversions, project management, and operational assessments. Ms. Clayton most recently led an operating room supply cost assessment that led to savings in orthopedics, spine, and reprocessing as well as operational improvements to inventory management and new product reviews. Previously, she led a supply chain assessment, redesign, and cost savings initiative in a major academic medical center with accumulated savings of $2.1 million, including savings in cardiology and orthopedics. She also assisted a major health system in achieving a $2.7 million cost reduction through development and implementation of a clinically driven resource consumption initiative.
Prior to joining Healthcare Cost Solutions, Ms. Clayton served as Vice President, Materiel Resource Management for Tenet HealthSystem. In this role, she developed and led a pharmacy integration strategic plan including a sole source contract for pharmacy distribution, saving over $7 million annually. She led an initiative to convert from reagent lease agreements in labs to owned instrumentation with standardization of vendors. In prior roles within Tenet, Ms. Clayton created and implemented a nationally acclaimed Procedural Case Management Program, identifying true procedure costs and costs of practice variation, while promoting agreement among physicians to use same outcome, lower-cost practices. She also played an active leadership role guiding Tenet’s Materials Management Information System business strategies, including installation of the system and training end-users in over 100 hospitals.
Ms. Clayton is a frequent keynote speaker who receives outstanding reviews for her delivery, content, and audience involvement. She tailors each presentation to the theme and audience in order to maximize value. She has spoken at annual professional conferences, such as OR Manager, ARHMM, and AORN; national manufacturer sales meetings; and various IDN group meetings. She is a well-respected health care executive known for her passion for health care and her enthusiasm for the people who deliver and support the processes behind it.
Ms. Clayton a B.S. degree in Professional Arts with Business Minor from St. Joseph’s College in Maine and is currently completing requirements for her MBA. She is an active member of AHRMM, AORN, OR Manager, AONE, ACHE, ANA, and HIMSS.
