Preference List Combo Procedure Analysis

OR Information Systems capture procedures done for each surgical case.  It is also helpful to know which preference lists were picked when there are multiple procedures done within a surgical case.  This report shows statistics on which procedures and preference lists were used in combination, allowing a more detailed review to determine the level of overlap between the preference lists for each of those procedures.

For example, D&C procedures are frequently done in combination with hysteroscopy procedures.  The same supplies are frequently on both preference lists specific to each procedure.  While most state-of-the art OR information systems offer "merge" or "don't merge" capabilities which may eliminate duplicated items and quantities, it requires human review and decision-making.

This report shows combination procedures done in order of descending frequency to facilitate this more detailed review.  Based on how often the combinations occur, and which surgeons are most frequently involved in the combination cases, it may make sense to create a new combo-preference list specific to the combined procedures and surgeons to better ensure that only the right items are picked in just the right quantities.  This can reduce wasted supplies and reduce staff effort required to pick and later return unused items.
